My Story

Hi, I’m Anthony, a dedicated martial artist with a lifelong passion for the grappling arts. My journey in martial arts began when I was just 7 years old, taking Karate in an after-school program. Though my time in Karate was brief due to financial constraints, my interest in martial arts never waned.

Throughout high school, my friends and I practiced what we knew, often renting studio time to spar and learn off the mats. When I was 17, I started practicing Tae Kwon Do and earned my purple belt. This was my first experience competing in martial arts, and I absolutely loved it.

Life took me off the mats for a few years, but at 26, I discovered Judo. I was captivated by the throws and grappling techniques, and I trained diligently for about 5 years, achieving the rank of Green Belt. Unfortunately, life intervened again, and I had to step away from training.

In my early 30s, I found Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) and was instantly drawn to its dynamic grappling style. Although I could only train for about 6 months, I exposed myself to a new level of natural aggression and passion for the sport.

It wasn’t until my late 30s that I truly settled into a consistent training routine. I found DeLaRiva BJJ in Brooksville, FL, and have been training with them for about 3 years now. I’ve never felt better or more dedicated to my practice. Still grounded in my first love, Judo, I continued to seek opportunities to train and eventually discovered Kaufman’s Karate. Through Kaufman, I found Carlson Gracie Freestyle Judo.

Today, I am fully immersed in training both BJJ and Judo, mastering my craft, learning the business aspects, and getting involved in the communities that nurture these great arts. My journey has been full of ups and downs, but my passion for martial arts has always guided me back to the mats. I’m excited to share my experiences and insights with you as I continue to grow and evolve in my practice.
